Warning:
Good news ahead
.

Judging by the above picture, I assume you know this post will be about my beloved band. Indeed, you are right.(Yay)  I have lots of wonderful news to report today. Let us start this report by recognizing that Weezer has been with the Geffen label since their music birth. We will never forget the label  for bringing us  gems like Pinkerton and the Red Album, but it is  time to bid adieu to the Geffen regime, as Weezer has decided to move on to smaller and better things!  Yes, it is true, yesterday the band announced they will be releasing their eighth album on the Epitaph label, marking the first time they will release an LP with an indie. FINALLY!  My Rivers will now have the freedom to be as raw and melodic as he pleases. As you know, (see Urban Dictionary post titled "As You Know") Epitaph has brought us amazing music from bands like Bad Religion, (one of my fav's) You Me At Six, Social D (another one of my fav's) Refused and many, many other smashing bands.

I just had one problem...

The cover

(and Rivers facebook profile pic)

Without the backing of the major Geffen label, Is Rivers panicking about the publicity of the album? Does he think that if he puts the picture of the dude from Lost all the annoying "Lostees" will buy the album because  the face of one of the characters is on the front? And worse, it's named after him? Is he trying to win over the Lost fans? Who cares about them?

   That was my first reaction...

However, I have more faith in Rivers than that. He is very intelligent (A Harvard Grad, after all) and I feel he makes most of his music decisions through pure inspiration. So I am not judging the cover or it's title.
I read an article in the LA Times where River says, he's not a fan of Lost (thank goodness)... He has only seen one or two seasons, But Rather just a fan of Gorge Garcia (AKA Hurley) and "his gleaming mug". It is kind of comical that while most bands obsess over what name they will give their next album or even ponder for months on the cover, Weezer is just going to use a  modified version of Rivers' facebook profile pic...And then name their album after it.(Hurley...and please bless this title has nothing to do with the 1987 clothing company that only seventh graders wear.)
.
There are so many reason why I love this clever band. It may be nostalgia. I  have loved them since I was 15 years old.  We would listen to them in my Subaru wagon every night as we would drive to Brighton to enjoy some night boarding.Or maybe it is just Rivers and his sense of realness. Or perhaps it's just him... How could you not love him? Just look at that face! Yes, they have had some less than stellar Albums... too poppy or too cheesy, (those are the ones we hear on the radio... I choose to overlook them because I have the "Mac condition"...see Vita Mix post )  but Pinkerton sold me for the rest of my life. If they can make more music like that (and I am hoping with this new label they will) I will be in music heaven.

Here is a excerpt from the LA Times Article. I will just copy and paste the whole thing  because I couldn't have said it better myself.

"Any live music maven in the second decade of the 21st century knows that a plain old rock band has a little problem. Shows have become so elaborate, overstimulating fans with lights shows, props, dancers and other distractions, that three or four people banging away on standard instruments can seem awfully dull.Weezer  leader Rivers Cuomo has overcome this disadvantage by diving deep into the rock and roll frontman's smelly trick bag and refreshing its contents with the kind of energy you'd expect from a young brat, not a 40-year-old dad with 15 years of stardom under his corduroy-hoisting belt.
Performing Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, Cuomo spent more time in the audience than he did onstage. He climbed onto camera dollies, played catch with giant Nerf footballs and several beach balls, and consistently invaded the personal space of his screaming fans. The madman routine was sharp as an ice pick -- Cuomo nailed every vocal in Weezer's wordy hits, led the band and pulled out several large guitar solos to boot."
Funny, because ten thousand lunges made mine smaller and smaller.
Until it practically became invisible.

But this still applies:

Those who scorn it
are invited to kiss it.

Gooood Morning

This is us at six  in the morning. We  woke up to find  Vivian taking over one hundred
pictures of the sink, cabinets, televisions and  fridge. Of course, Nadia and I
had to pose before snatching the camera out of Vivi's sticky little mitts.
Thank heavens for digital cameras.

That myth is more potent than history
That dreams are more powerful than facts
That hope always triumphs over experience
That laughter is the only cure for grief
And I believe that love is stronger than death

"LIKE"

Normally I am not partial to becoming fans of things...events, situations, concepts on Facebook unless I am trying to support a friend, OR I truly love what I am about to click that I "like"... Turns out there are websites dedicated to allowing you to select  things...events, situations, concepts  that you like ...just to like it. Seems strange to me, what's the point? But then again, what's the point of Facebook to begin with? Or this blog?

So there is a "I hate it when" phenomenon going around, that for the most part is pretty feebleminded. But there have been a couple that have actually made me crack a smile... in some cases made me even laugh a little.

I hate it when you're with MC Hammer and he doesn't let you touch anything.

I hate it when I want to stop believing but Journey won't let me.

I hate when I'm looking for Tyler Durden, and it turns out I'm Tyler Durden.

I hate when I'm shirtless in the woods and Abercrombie takes pictures of me.

I hate when I get in one  little fight and I have to move to Bel Air.

I hate it when someone secretly puts your name in the Goblet of Fire.

*Maybe I find these humorous because I picture a little twelve year old going through all this trouble to come up with these, and actually taking the time to post them on one of these dumb websites. Or they remind me of me when I was twelve, I would have thought these were very clever. Either way, I am not sure why I think they are funny. They just are.*

To My Child

You are the trip I did not take;
You are the pearls I cannot buy;
You are my blue Italian lake;
You are my piece of foreign sky.

from The Treasure Chest

love, love, love this.

I am missing the snow.
These hot summer days are no good.
.

And since we're on the subject of missing things,
I am also missing Tom's curly locks.

 Drinks are on me!

If you and I have ever had a conversation, you  know that I am a bit beset (infatuated, engrossed, bedeviled) with my Vita Mix. I am like the Mac owner. (my product is perfect and can do no wrong, having my Mac makes me the smartest, most astute and powerful  individual on my block...)  Just like them, I talk about it all the time.Only no one really knows why I talk about it, it's just a blender. (Call it "just a blender" in some circles and they are likely to skin you alive...perhaps because they now have no need to skin anything else) The fact that it can make  hot soup and ice cream is just the coolest thing ever. And of course there is no need to ever skin or de-core anything again.

Every morning I make two smoothies. One for the children and one for me. And after eight years,  I am proud to report  Tom is starting to warm up to the idea.

Here is the kids - Keep in mind there is no science to this, just add what you feel like adding and as much as you want to add. I mix it up everyday but this is generally how it goes.

2 -3 big handfuls of baby spinach. it blends into hardly anything and is tasteless, so the more the better
1 handful of kale. go easy on this at first because it has a strong taste
1 handful of collard greens/ spring greens/  saisai/ cabbage/ whatever you have. (the darker and leafier, the better)
1-2 sticks of celery. it gives off a weird taste, so start with less at first
carrot sticks. adds sweetness
1 frozen mango, skin and all.
sprouts. any kind.
yogurt
1 banana. it helps mask the taste of the not so yummy veggies
pour as many frozen berries as you have room for
add 100% pure juice or water
no need to add ice, the frozen berries makes it cold, thick and delish!

Bad example, this particular pic has more berries
because I was running low on my greens

Mine may not look as yummy as the kids...ok, it doesn't taste as yummy either, but as you drink all the veggies your body starts to crave sweet things less and less. Until you really don't need any fruit in it at all.

Mine is the same as the kids except instead of the fruit,  I add more sprouts and leafies. I also add ice because I usually don't have any frozen berries in it. This day being the exception, because  as I  mentioned,  I was running low on veggies.

Look at that, 44 oz of pure goodness.

And that's just breakfast! Imagine what it can do for dinner...

Oh... I have a Mac, and it truly does make me the smartest, most astute and powerful individual on the block.

 So Far...So Summer

Bonjour!  I have been wanting to post some pictures of the family since it's been a while since I have done so.  However, I can't figure out how to post them in any kind of harmony. My OCD kicks in and won't let me just put them up.Not that we have been doing anything super exciting, (the real fun will begin in mid July) but we have had some good times...

Entertainment

So far the highlight has been Seinfeld. We all went  for Mandy's birthday.  We have seen him before but our seats weren't real great, so this time we had the best seats in the house. Jerry puts on quite a show, so that was a super great time.
We took  the kids to Park City Resort. That was super fun. We did everything they had to offer. It was great just to chill out and spend some time with the kids.
We hang out in Midway  at Tom's Parent's house where we swim and play a lot of ping pong.
We have been taking the kids to see every movie that comes out, even Robin hood, which was a stretch... (and an awful one at that.)
As you know, Tom has his summers off, so we get to spend a lot of time with him, he and the children go on hikes, camp, roast hot dogs and play at the park all the time. I am sad I am not able to always be there, but last time Nadia and Liam told me when they went on a bbq in the mountains with daddy, there were so many ants there I would have died... and died, I would have...and  I wouldn't have been able to eat...and  Tom would have been impatient with me for insisting we find another spot...and the kids would've been starving by the time we found somewhere suitable...and the drinks would've gotten warm...and the ice would've melted...and I would've been trying to convince everyone that ants are treacherous little creatures...and the kids would be crying because we would've left the chocolate for the s'mores at the last bbq spot...and  it probably would have caused and argument... so that's one scene I am glad to have avoided.

Food

I don't believe I have cooked one meal thanks to In N Out and Zupas and Texas and Outback and the Smoking Apple and that new Italian (Cafe Rio style) place in Orem and that wretched place in Provo that serves barbecue and Chinese in the same venue... if that wasn't enough to make you want to throw up... oh wait, Nadia did... throw up,  I don't recommend that place...oh, I can't forget Lone Star in SLC, it's a little Mexican restaurant, not to be confused with Lone Star Steakhouse which is also quite delicious... So I guess it wouldn't be that bad if you did get them mixed up... it would work out either way.

Sleep

Hardly. I swear we are not going to bed until two AM every night and yet, I still get up at seven AM every morning...  This girl needs her sleep. No wonder everyone is walking on eggshells around me... huh.

Summary

In summary,  before I get too carried away with a bunch of things that is really not that exciting (too late) I will end my post with a wow, I think we eat out too much. Dad,  you were right... While I was busying myself with  decorating  my fort, remodeling  my room or space planning the garage,  I probably should have been in the kitchen helping mom cook.

And just so we're clear

Ants are treacherous little creatures.

 Yes she did

This is the kind of thinking that got me where I am today.

So where am I today?
That's a bloody good question.

Again with the cheese? I know.
But you know I couldn't (and wouldn't) put these kinds of things in my house,
and who needs to when you have a blog?

7.01.2010

 Ew, Gross

I don't know what kind of bug that was, but yes, I would rather capture it and wait
for Tom to come home so he can kill it. Killing big bugs gives me the willies.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GARRETT

What can I say other than Garrett keeps getting cooler and cooler. What can't he do? Nothing. He is a 4.0 honor roll student every quarter in school. He just gave a amazing talk in sacrament meeting. (He knocked everyone's socks off) He has an artistic ability like you wouldn't believe and now has a huge following on Youtube for his skate videos and graffiti. I love this boy. I love. love. love. him. I love him for all of the stuff I just mentioned, but I love him most of all because he has a heart of gold.

For his birthday party, he took his two best friends to the Park City Skate Park. In his words,
"That place is heaven."

6.12.2010

Oh Rivers, everything you say is just perfect.

"I had rock-star dreams from 8 or 9 almost nonstop. I thought it was going to be like being a God on earth: having as many women as you want whenever you want them, having super powers, being incredibly wealthy, never doing laundry. Instead I found myself in the dead of winter in Boston with a long beard, no friends and a bum leg. It was pretty disillusioning..."

                                                                  -Rivers Cuomo

6.08.2010

This is the skateboard Garrett has requested for his birthday. I think it is very clever. Have I mentioned what an awesome skateboarder he has become? Tom has built a skate park in our basement, (let's hear it for my insistence on high ceilings) which I was all for... until every boy within a fifteen mile radius found out about it, and now there is no peace at our house. Boys are there from nine  AM til midnight. (I complain, but you know I love a house full of kids.) So let the summer games begin. Smelly, sweaty boys that are going through a case of Gatorade a day, little princesses running around changing outfits twelve times a day... The grocery bill has tripled... (I think... ask Tom, he does the grocery shopping) The laundry has quadrupled and I am in heaven. Oh how I have missed no school... Now I just need to get rid of this bloody sun and get some rain going and I'd be as my sister said yesterday, "As happy as tic in a trailer park"

I'm not sure why a tic would be happy there, but that's for another time.

6.07.2010

You know...

Love this. I am not sure of the artist... Perhaps you may have seen this and you know.
If so... do tell.

Now time for more readings from
The Urban Dictionary

With today's featured phrase

"As You Know"

A derogatory prepatory statement in a sentence used when telling someone something they should already know, but, in fact the author knows they do not.

I love this website. Apart from  The People of Walmart site, this is one of my favorite passing of time whilst Jetblue-ing sites to visit.

Some may argue that there are more useful things I could be doing with my time.

But where's the fun in that?

5.25.2010

5.24.2010

I need to take a holiday.

As Audrey Hepburn said,

"Paris is always a good idea."

Indeed.

Of course...since Tom has put me on a "budget",  Paris Texas isn't even in my future let alone Paris France. So I can kiss that idea goodbye and just be grateful I can still afford luxuries like dinnering with my girlfriends.

Contrary to popular belief (Dad) I don't spend that much money anyway. So this budget business has hardly affected me...  (I am going to just keep telling myself that...)

5.14.2010

Two thumbs

Well, it has definitely been a while since I have given my humble opinion on movies... and you should know by now that I am quite a movie buff. Of course, I could talk about this year's most talked about movie, Avatar (I know, it came out last year... forgive me for being behind) but I figured I would instead talk about a good movie.

Well, let's actually talk a little bit about Avatar. (I just saw it last week ) In fact, let's talk about all the dumb movies that I have and haven't even bothered to see.

So Brandon was asking me the other day about Avatar. When I told him how lame I thought it was, he was shocked... (not really, he thinks I need a movie intervention) I reminded him how I prefer creative movies. His response? " How can you get more creative than that? The scenery, the money spent on that movie, the time that went into it...How beautiful it was just to watch..." yadayadayada.  I told him the same thing  I told everyone else, I called that movie two minutes in. I knew exactly what was going to happen down to the annoying pilot that helps them. How can I watch a movie that is so predictable? And as far as the beauty of the film goes, if I want to look at something beautiful, I'll just look in a mirror. thank you. very. much.

Oh, and by the way blue people, be prepared to have a  ten thousand times bigger battle when they send more soldiers with bigger, more powerful weapons. So you really think you won and they won't come back?

(Please bless they don't so that I am not subject to a sequel.)

The other movies that look just so awful and predictable? Let's start with ANYTHING that stars Jennifer Aniston. I don't even need to see the previews to know what and how that movie plays out. The other ones? Sandra Bullock (with the exception of The Blind Side) and Jennifer Lopez. Please kill me now. If I want to be annoyed, I will just have someone scratch the same square inch of my arm for three hours. At least that way, I can save myself the $7.50. The suckers that find their humor, humorous is just unfathomable to me.  None of those women have ever even made me crack a smile. Well, that is not true... I have to give Jennifer Aniston some credit. She was amazing in The Good Girl. But her being in that movie was an absolute fluke...She must have accepted that role without reading the script.

My time is running short, so I would and could go on for hours about these (and several others, and that's not even what  I wanted to talk about) but I have a precious little girls room to design.

I will just take a second though, to highlight my favorite pick of the year.

Kick Ass.

Truly it was

Kick Ass.

Enjoy the show.

5.11.2010

I totally love a good mushroom. They are so delicious.
Happy Mothers Day to all of you beautiful mothers.
To me, there is nothing more beautiful...
than a mommy.

Loves,

A special Happy Mothers Day to my Precious Mom.
You know I love you.

5.07.2010

My precious sister, Jackie.

Every once and a while she moves back home and we get to play with her. She teaches me all I need to know about raw food, green smoothies (it was her that got me addicted), astrology and ayurveda. She keeps me well balanced in all the "other" things I never knew I was missing. She also taught me Spanish and French when I was little. Together we learned a bit of Italian, so we could talk with our brother. If it weren't for Jackie, I wouldn't be nearly as exciting as I am. ;)

Love you Susie, I mean Jacks.

They fit right in, don't they?

They also love NYC!

All because two people fell in love...

No, not us. Although I do love her.

Emilie and Erik. They fell in love. She will now be known as Emilie Nunes Copier Briggs. However,  I'll just know her as my best friend. The wedding was serene and beautiful. The bride could not have looked more stunning. I cried. I cried because I am so happy to know that she has found the happiness that she truly deserves. I love you Emilie!
